The main lodge commands the high ground, serving as the central anchor of the entire six-thousand-acre estate with its muted timber cladding and classical columns set against lush subtropical greenery. Designed in a traditional plantation style, the building features soaring timber ceiling lines, broad verandas, and expansive glass panels that catch the ever-changing light of Matauri Bay.
The estate itself takes its name from the magnificent ancient kauri trees native to New Zealand's upper North Island—living relics from the Jurassic period. Deep within the estate's forest stands a protected, 900-year-old giant kauri, its trunk so massive it requires several people holding hands just to encircle it. Furthermore, elements of prehistoric, 50,000-year-old Swamp Kauri unearthed during estate clearing are seamlessly woven into the lodge's bespoke architecture and joinery.

"Our culinary philosophy is rooted entirely in local provenance," the Chef shares, "honoring the estate's soils and the surrounding ocean through ingredients like hand-harvested Pink Beach sea salt and wild Northland honey."
Beyond the main dining room, the estate transforms into an experiential canvas. Guests partake in the signature "Catch & Cook" ritual—where fish reeled straight from the Pacific are prepared for dinner by the private chef—or enjoy seasonal lunches at the 19th Tee Food Truck and exclusive beachside barbecues on Pink Beach.
