The 1937 Bauhaus-style Karaköy Passenger Terminal—designed by Rebii Gorbon and crowned by Sultan watchmaker Mustafa Şem-i’s rooftop clock tower—once served as Turkey's glamorous maritime gateway, now reborn as the hotel’s soaring lobby. Adjacent rests Çinili Han (The Tiled Inn), historically significant as one of Turkey's oldest reinforced concrete structures bridging Ottoman masonry with early republican engineering, alongside Merkez Han, the early 1900s port headquarters that managed Bosphorus shipping logistics for decades.
Rounding out the quadrangle is a sleek, contemporary fourth wing styled with a metallic sheen locally likened to a copper submarine, custom-engineered to host grand ballrooms and international galas without impacting the protected walls of its historic neighbors. "Our master architectural plan was guided by reverence for the water—designing open pathways and stone loggias so the energy of the Bosphorus flows naturally through every courtyard," the architectural restoration team reflects.
